Maaja Bohm
I am originally a textile artist educated in the US, in Finaland and finally at konstfack in Stockholm. In the beginning I worked with soft formable yarns and many colors. After a while the need to explore the opposite grew - to work with hard materials, which led to sheet iron. Definitely not soft and formable. A synthesis between the opposites became to "sew" the metal with different textile materials.
Both color and form was simplified and simple signs and symbols became the motives. Working with clay using "raku" was a new adventure. The clay was hard and solid. The raku introduces supprices and challenges - a technique that is difficult to control but gives exciting and sometimes surpricing results.

I have an Estonian background, grew up in the US and moved to Sweden 1969. I have worked as an art teacher for many years at Solna kulturskola.
